Straight Talk

AustLon® has free machining properties which allow traditional machining techniques to be utilised. Conventional metal working machinery and tools are used, however due to it’s softness which is similar to aluminium and copper, the work piece has to be supported with greater caution.

Thermal conductivity of AustLon® is lower than that of steel and therefore care must be taken to adequately cool machined work pieces in air, water or soluble oil. Sharp tools and moderate feeds are used with moderate cutting speeds, thereby assisting in the reduction of heat buildup.
