Tapping AustLon®

Tapping can be performed by hand or machine. Ground taps are generally preferred as they are the sharpest for machine tapping. Gun noses are used for the holes. They are spiral fluted for blind holes. Conventional taps can be used for hand tapping providing they are sharp. To achieve a tapped hole with a closed tolerance, the tapping drill should be slightly smaller than that which is normally made in metal. When tapping by machine cutting, the use of fluids is recommended to keep the work piece cool.
