PTFE (TEFLON) – VIRGIN
Virgin PTFE, widely known by the trade name Teflon®, is prized in industrial applications for a combination of properties no other unfilled plastic quite matches: near-total chemical inertness, an extremely low coefficient of friction, and reliable performance from low temperatures up to around 200°C continuous use. McNeall Plastics stocks virgin PTFE alongside glass, carbon and bronze filled grades, giving engineers a filler option suited to their specific wear, load or friction requirements.
Chemical Name: PolyTetraFluoroEthylene
Common/Trade Names: Teflon®, Rulon®, Hostaflon
Abbreviation: PTFE
Properties (Colour): White in virgin form
Grades: Grades of PTFE are varied by the addition of fillers. Virgin (no filler). Glass fibre filled 15% and 25%. Carbon Filled. Bronze Filled.
Machining: Very good
Chemical Resistance: PTFE is considered to be a very chemical resistant material.

Because virgin PTFE is relatively soft and can cold-flow under sustained load, filled grades are often specified where dimensional stability or wear resistance under pressure matters more than absolute chemical resistance. Our team can talk you through the trade-offs between virgin and filled PTFE for your application, whether that's a static seal in a chemical plant, a low-friction bearing surface, or an electrical insulator operating at elevated temperature. All grades are held in stock at our NSW headquarters for fast turnaround into rod, plate or machined components.
